laptop to tv

#1 Post by retired » Thu Jun 23, 2011 1:44 pm

I have an r52 with intel900 graphics. I would like to connect the laptop to the tv using an S video cable. Right now I have a direct tv receiver going to a dvd recorder by s video and the recorder is hooked to the tv by composite cables - no problem. I want to take the S video cable off the direct tv receiver and hook it to my laptop's S video connection. When I do it in either xp or linux I don't get any picture on the tv. Any ideas ?

You will probably have to boot the computer with the cable connected and the DVD recorder/TV turned on. At least that's how my setup works. Otherwise, the computer won't know there is another monitor connected.

I can double check for you tonight with my R51, should be close enough set-up to yours. When I connected mine for the first time, all I saw was a blank/black screen. Then I right clicked on desktop > Properties > Settings. This is where I clicked on the "Display" drop down box and chose the second option (1. "can't remember exact words" but 2. says the exact same thing). I also ticked the "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" option. Also need to remember that you need to be logged into an Administrator user if you are using a regular user account.

Hope this helps.
