R51 driving me nutzzzzzzzzzzzzz

#1 Post by jronald » Sat Jul 09, 2011 5:04 pm

Mind you that's not a real far trip for me.

R51 with the Intel 2200bg will not connect to a WPA router, no issues with WEP. Tried old IBM drivers tried new IBM drivers. Let them install themselves, manually installed them, pointed the unknown hardware to the driver file. Uninstalled, deleted registry keys. You name it I tried it .......................

On a whim installed the generic Intel Driver, right off the Intel website. Went ahead and included the Intel desktop, whole smear. Connected instantly, no issues.

Somebody splain this to me.

Hey Ron. I am surprised that you've had this problem. I don't recall having any problems with the 2200bg card and WPA encryption. If you're looking for an explanation the obvious conclusion is Lenovo /IBM drivers that are not up to par. Is that new news to anyone?

Ran fine on the IBM drivers for 8 months, then the wife (you know the one that keeps breaking the bloody thing, see my signature) tells me it will only connect to the RE-UNDER, which is B and WEP. I fiddle with it for awhile then said, run it till I get a chance to investigate. Investigation was today. So I re-download the whole smear, swap to 3 different wireless cards and a big fat nada!

Dont know what broke it, dont understand why the IBM drivers wont work. I went to the Intel site and it told me the drivers were current.

Dont really know why I downloaded the Intel drivers.
Now shes whining that she does not like the Intel icon................jeez.

I always use the "Icsx32" file here from the Intel site itself:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... plications

I never bother with the IBM/Lenovo drivers once I know I'm using a 2200BG wifi card. Always installs and networks pop up right away. Then I change "Advanced" settings in Intel Wifi management utility to let Windows manage with its Zero configuration utility and reboot. Never, ever had a problem with WPA encryption which is what I have on my home router using this card with an R51, R52, T4x or any other of those type laptops.

Daniel,

You would have to be married and provide tech support for your wife's computer to understand. I know what Ron means all too well!

LOL Neil and Ron. I understand now. He means the little Intel icon on the bottom- well you can hide that by right-clicking on Windows taskbar, "Properties", customize to make her happy :)

At first, I thought he was referring to his laptop as "she" LOL.

Ron,

Have you tried Intel PRO/SET wireless utility? Saved me from going nuts on several ThinkPads that were not liked by my low-end Westell router...

I agree, works great. The Intel PRO/SET wireless utility is the Icsx32 file we pointed him to above:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... plications

Also works for the WM3B2915ABG Intel mini-PCI wifi card.
