Blown R61i's headphone jack

#1 Post by ignas » Mon Aug 08, 2011 8:03 am

Greetings to all Thinkpads' users :)

my problem is the following -- by accident (you can also call it stupidity, but well, only one who doesn't work, doesn't do mistakes) I provided voltage of +15V to my beloved R61i's headphone port  The port still delivers signal to headphones, but only when the sound is set to maximum and it is very weak. The question would be if it is possible to fix this issue and do not change computer's MB?

The type of my "calculator" is 7732-A84.

Edit: I forgot to mention, that I am familiar with soldering and PCBs to some extent.

Cheers,
Ignas

Most likely you blew the sound chip. Replacing that would be rather challenging without an SM rework station.
