Will R50e screen assembly fit to R52 base ?

#1 Post by Wiking » Fri Aug 12, 2011 6:55 am

I have an R50e 1834-j8g with faulty motherboard.
I have an option to buy an R52 base and then I can fit my R50e screen assembly, keyboard, palmrest, battery, HDD cover.
Does anyone know if it will fit ? my R50e is 15 inch.
Thank you
Lior

While I have never made that particular swap, as long as the R52 is a 15" base, it should fit.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Hi Lior,

just to confirm what Neil said, once they're both 15" it will fit like a glove. I swapped a 15" R50p UXGA Flexview screen onto an R52 base today, and it fits perfectly. The palm rest, screen latches and their corresponding openings seemed to have been machined with cookie-cutter precision. Latches and lid closes nice and snug. So it seems you can take the LCD assembly, Keyboard, palm rest, DVD drive, hard drive cover from your R50e and swap it onto the R52 base. One thing is you will need to use PC2-4200 memory with the R52, not the PC2700 or PC2100 that is inside your R50e. You may be able to swap the wifi card right over (not sure if that will trigger an 1802 error- the experts here can comment on that portion), or this may be a great opportunity to upgrade your wifi card. By the way, the swap works perfectly the other way also, an R52 LCD assembly, palm rest and keyboard onto an R50/e base. That's one nice thing about the I.B.M. model numbering system. Most parts are generally interchangeable between R50/e/p, R51, R52 (R5x series), and between T40, T41, T42, T43 (T4x series). One notable change from T42 to T43 is, of course the jump from PC2700 to PC2-4200, likewise seen in transition from R51 to R52.

So you should consider purchasing that R52 base from that nice gentleman :wink:
