R51 blues
OK, took the Intel 2200 out of the wives R51, because the [censored] thing was just flaky. Installed a Phillips/Atheros card. Connects well to the Unsecured and the B network. Will not connect worth a darn to the multiple G's. Have the latest drivers installed. I believe the card is from a T42, so vintage is about right. Im tired of fiddling around with this stupid thing.
Im wide open for suggestions. The original card acted just like this card. 2 different brands acting the same......what am I missing?

And what driver is that? Please share the version number. And, which card do you have? Is it this one?jronald wrote:Have the latest drivers installed. I believe the card is from a T42, so vintage is about right.

That's the only card I know of with Philips label. (Phillips with two L is a screw head.) It so happens that is 802.11a and 802.11b, NOT G. Maybe your base stations are set to G-only mode, without 802.11b compatibility.

Re: R51 blues
Hi Ron,
just take a deep breath. Relax. God will help you
Now,
is this the same R51 wireless issue you posted about a while back? Wow, you poor chap
I thought you had the Intel 2200BG installed and working smoothly. Oh well, back to the drawing board...
Is this a Philips FRU P/N 91P7301? That's an ABG wifi card. Let me know I can point you to the driver I use which works fine for me. Maybe it's just a driver issue. However, if this seems to be a chronic issue you're experiencing with the 2200BG easily connecting to a nearby unsecured network but not to your wireless G network it sounds like some "IP Config" type setup may have been messed up, which is a pain in the neck to fix. Requires a lot of registry tweaking, etc. If I was in your shoes I would try swapping in a different hard drive with Windows XP SP3 set up (which I assume is the OS in question) from another R51 or a T42. Then, install the driver and see if it works. If it does, then it's a problem with your "IP Config" registry settings on your wife's hard drive. If that is the case and I was in your shoes, what I would do to be honest is back up your data, and just reinstall Windows from scratch since I'm sure a lot of other registry settings are also probably out of whack. A fresh install might fix a lot of issues...
If it's not the "IP config" thing then try the card in another R51 or T42 as the only other problem I would imagine would be that particular R51's wireless wires, wifi slot or some hardware issue.
Best wishes,
Daniel.

Re: R51 blues
Hi Ron, just saw your latest post. So here's the driver for the Philips 91P7301 which I use. Always works perfectly for me, and I never have trouble connecting an R51, T42, T41, etc. to my home wireless G network. It's called the "ThinkPad 802.11bg wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter" with Filename "77wc39ww" on the Lenovo T42 download page here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/researc ... MIGR-55386
Good luck,
Daniel.

Re: R51 blues
So there is another Philips card. Duly noted.
Once again, which driver are you using? I assume your OS is Windows XP?
Daniel has it right, the current driver from IBM is 77wc39ww.
Version 4.1.2.156
Issue date May 29, 2007
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... MIGR-67214
But if it still doesn't work for you, and you feel like taking a chance…
Do you use ThinkVantage Access Connections?
I like the Atheros 5k cards, though it is absolutely true that some vendors do a bad job of providing drivers. Not saying anything about IBM; just in general, and more of retail PCI cards. When I feel that the official drivers from Name On The Box Co. are outdated, I use generic Atheros drivers. The downside is that generic drivers might not support feature software like Access Connections, and they can be harder to install.
I owe many thanks to the great people behind http://www.atheros.cz.

To the best of my ability to navigate Lenovo Support, the following is the newest driver for your card.
MIGR-70480

Re: R51 blues
If anyone is willing to listen to my old gray cells, the key to resolving this problem is in the utility used to connect...
Are you using the one provided by Windows? Access Connections? Generic Atheros?

Re: R51 blues
On the 2200, I started with the Windows Wireless, when that crapped out, I switched to the Intel, which also worked for awhile. After listening to her complain, I yanked the 2200 out and put the Phillips card in. No particular reason for the Phillips, other than it was on top. Loaded the Phillips driver and it worked fine for a week. Started the same old stuff, so I switched to the semi-generic Atheros. Once again it worked for awhile, now its dropping the signal. The closest AP is 10 feet away! You should be able to use a coat hanger and tin foil, shoved into the ethernet cable port on the back of the T51 and it work!!

Re: R51 blues
Try Atheros' own wireless utility...and if that doesn't solve the issue, combine it with Access Connections.
Works on one of my machines like a charm, and I have a very picky router that is stingy with issuing IP addresses...

Atheros Wireless Utility will not take control of the card.
The driver is 4.1.2.156 provided by Atheros.
