Win XP freezes with INTEL PRO/100+ Combo -A21M

Had Win 98 running. Reformatted and am trying to install WinXP (w/SP2) on A21M. Install froze trying to install INTEL Pro/100 + mini PCI combo card. Removed card, completed XP install, but XP freezes during XP load. Loaded in safe mode, installed XIRCOM modem driver from IBM site, still freezes, either due to modem or ethernet part. Is INTEL Pro/100 SP the same as Intel Pro/100 + ? Any suggestions

I recall installing Windows 2000 on an A20M, and it not finding the network card drivers. I had to get the drivers from the Windows 98 recovery CD that came with the A20M. Maybe this is similar to your machine. ... JD Hurst

This was a used A21 with no OS or recovery CDs. One thing I might try is to reformat, install 98 with its drivers, then upgrade to XP to see if it would retain 98 drivers. Thanks
