Can you still upgrade from Win 7 Pro to Win 7 Ultimate?
My T500 with Win 7 Ultimate just died tonight. I'm considering a T530, but only Win 7 Pro (and Win 8 Pro) is available.
Can you still upgrade from Win 7 Pro to Win 7 Ultimate w/o reinstalling (Anytime Upgrade)? Or has Microsoft discontinued that once Win 8 was released and now only allows upgrades to Win 8?

Windows 7 Ultimate is [pretty much] Windows 7 PRO + Bit Locker + Ability to change UI language without hacking into registry.
If you don't use HDD encryption via Bit Locker or if you are not planning to change language of User Interface don't bother paying for an upgrade…

Yeah -- I have since come to realize that and decided it's not worth the $129 (!) to upgrade.

Pennywise but pound foolish amigo IMO. If your notebook gets stolen with your data free for some thug or cyber nerd geek to use then the $129 would be priceless.

True, but there are things beside bitlocker than can accomplish the same end (such as TrueCrypt whole disk encryption).

BL works pretty well. Have no tried TC but the TPM integration with BL is a consideration for you.
