As in my other thread there was no replies (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=108484), I guess it was the wrong thread to ask the questionhe question.
Lenovo System Update by default (Critical and Recommended updates) installs lots of junk to the system. Is it all really necessary? Should I go only with critical updates? I definitely do not want the optional ones.
I read somewhere in the forum Lenovo System Update even does not update all the necessary drivers, you may have to do it manually.
What is your strategy?

Should you use Windows drivers or Lenovo drivers (which)?

Re: Should you use Windows drivers or Lenovo drivers (which)?
The Windows drivers provide only base functionality. I use the Lenovo drivers, with the exception of the AHCI disk driver, which I get from Intel directly.
Some of the software installed by Lenovo System Update is intended for corporate use, or provide hardware based security. It is very nice software, not "junk", as you so refer to it.
List the drivers that you are concerned about, by function, and you'll get more opinions.

I use Lenovo's driver for most stuff. Intel drivers for the chipset and SATA/AHCI contoller. Intel, Nvidia or AMD for the GPU. As for the rest of the software offered up by System Update, it's not junk, most of it is useful. I just pick and choose the one that I want.
