IE11 & IE10 not working properly on win 7

#1 Post by indicium » Thu Nov 14, 2013 7:25 pm

I have uninstalled IE11 (and previously IE10) and gone back to IE9 after not being able to view many websites properly. The first indication was not displaying all text and pictures on various news sites and then only getting the header from Mapquest.
I disabled all add-ins and it still wouldn't work. So back to IE9 for a second time. My question is, should I reset internet options to default and try installing IE11 again or just stick with IE9? I'm not interested in going to Firefox or another browser. The reason I'm asking is that I have a VM that I never customized the internet options and IE11 works fine with all my websites.

TIA

When you first ran IE10 or IE11 right after they were first installed, did you select "Do not use recommended settings" in the box that pops up?

IE10 and IE11 has some kind of hidden UA string, and compatibility with websites is better if you select to "Automatically configure" instead. You can verify this with your VM: Go to Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset. After the reset is complete, reboot the VM. Launch IE11 and select "Do not use recommended settings." I would think that the sites would then start appearing incorrectly on the VM as they did back when you had IE11 installed on your Host OS.

Also, you can click the compatibility icon on sites that look funny on IE10/IE11, but you likely already know that.

More info here (or by web searching for IE11 user agent string) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... s.85).aspx

There in lies the problem, I have IE10 and IE11 on various VM's and I have copied my favorites over to them and they work fine. Its only my host machine that has a problem. Its probably some add-in or setting that is creating the problem. I may virtualize the host and try playing around with it to see if I can make it work. I did reset all the internet options before I installed IE11 the last time and I still had the problems. The last install, I did select 'automatically configure' and didn't have any luck with that either.

I now have IE11 installed and somewhat working. This occurred as a result of mysterious problems that started with IE9 on Monday 12/30. Several of my usual favorite websites started acting strange and not showing the complete website, this was the problem that I had with IE11. I tried several times over the next couple of days and could not get them to load correctly. I had not updated any Windows or other programs since the 14th of December, and every site worked fine then. So, I decided to go ahead and install IE11 and amazingly it worked fine on most of the sites, I have complete webpages now on CNN and Fox News and several others. I still can't get MapQuest to display and sadly missing the 'ads' on some sites. LOL! but otherwise happy to have IE11 working. Its faster and the pictures and videos seem to look better.
