Micro$haft is $hafting W7-users, AGAIN

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Tue Dec 05, 2017 11:48 am

Why does Micro$haft make life so difficult?
Can't those Redmonders behave?
At least until 2020?

Be with it. Apple doesn't even support any of their OS for more than 2 years for the past 10 years and forces you to use High Sierra in multiple ways.

Yes true to form MS will try to make Window 7 as problematic as they can leading to EOL. Post 2020 deciding which Linux distro to navigate to will be the main objective.

Had the exact problem last week with an old Dell 820. Got tired of waiting. Spent 30 minutes and loaded Linux Mint 18.3. Never looking back. I love Windows 7 but Linux these days is doing it for me.

I'll be holding on to W7 as long as I can. I use too many Windows only programs that just can't be emulated in Wine. Windows 10 won't fly with me, and that start menu that belongs to Windows ME!

Take a T500 and smash it into my head. :x
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Err... at least 2 of our Win7 computers still cannot use Windows Update (stopped around the time of OP's post above)...

"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the
service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

(We have double-checked and confirm that we did not "turn off" Windows Update).

Anyone else having this unable to Windows Update problem for Win7 ?

Had that issue on one of my machines this month. Service was definitely running. Turning on automatic updates then turning them off again seemed to clear it up.

Use WSUS Offline Update. It even has shell scripts that let you download Windows updates in Linux for offline deployment.

All in all it produces errors for quite some time, and will produce even more just to make us tired of W7 ;)

Need to get used to W10 after all...
(Fortunately not until 2020)
Too many thinkpads not enough time!

You bumped a 2 year old thread to say that, without even bothering to explain or put it into context?
