seeking matte screen with w7+
seeking matte screen with w7+
New to this forum, and not a techie, but willing to venture forth in the hope that experts here may enjoy being of assistance.
I am seeking a machine with a matte screen that can run w7 but can also upgrade beyond w7 for the sadly coming day when that will be necessary. So, for example, an install of W10 pro that can be dialed back to w7. I think that means buying used rather than new, and i don't know where to find listings for which old Lenovo machines have matte screens, and other factors. (My ideal would be a site like productchart.com, but including used items.) My full spec includes:
15" screen
ethernet port
able to install a SSD (or comes with it)
weight 5.5 pounds or less (4-5 would be great)
screen pixels 1600x900 or better
RAM memory at least 8 GB
disk at least 500 GB
Any ideas on which Lenovo machines (if any) fit that list, or where to find out? Thanks!

T520 fits that good but it is 6lbs(1600x900 or 1920x1080)
T420 is 14" but only 4-5lbs.(1600x900)
T570(4.5lbs)/P50s(5lbs) is good but has an inferior keyboard to the T520/T420 if you care about that.
15" screen - only W5** and T5** machines. If the first digit is a 5, it is a 15". A 14" is a 4, a 12" is a 2, etc. Note: The new P50/P70 are 15" and 17" respectively.
ethernet port - all Thinkpads
able to install a SSD (or comes with it) - all Thinkpads
weight 5.5 pounds or less (4-5 would be great) - most post 2012 Thinkpads 15", all Thinkpads 14" or smaller
screen pixels 1600x900 or better - all Thinkpads
RAM memory at least 8 GB - all Thinkpads
disk at least 500 GB - all Thinkpads

Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Thinkpad T550, T560, and W550s are 15" "ultrabooks" weighing 5 lbs, so they have no DVD drive. They support Windows 7.
You may also consider the P50 which is very new, very fast and is 5.8 pounds. If T560 can run 7 so can the P50.
Predecessors T540p, W540, and W541 are at least 5.5 lbs with DVD drives, quad core, and 3K screen options, traditional laptops of the modern age. Because T550/T560 use ULV processors a T540p/W540/W541 with a full powered quad core is actually faster, but not as fast as the P50.

Thank you for the replies.

I am not confident that is the case. As best i can tell from perusing the system properties, i believe my current R500 has a screen that's 1280×800, 2 GB RAM, and ~400 GB disk (that's after installing a SSD). My computer is a decade old and perhaps the models are not the same over time?screen pixels 1600x900 or better - all Thinkpads

Re: seeking matte screen with w7+
Is there a chart posted someplace that compares all the Thinkpads (i mean past models, not just newly available ones)? With factors included such as weight, screen type, processor, etc.

Even the celebrated FrankenPad T601F would do!
15" 4:3 T60 or T60p chassis
14.1" 4:3 T61 motherboard with Intel or nVidia NVS140M GPU
15" 4:3 HV150UX2-100 UXGA (1600x1200) IPS with ex factory LED-backlight (requires LED-mod)
Intel T8100/T8300/T9300/T9500/X9000 CPU
Ethernet port
8GB RAM
SSD any size
CDRW/DVDRW (or adapter for another 2.5" HD/SSD)
Classic 7-row keyboard
W7 no problem
