"Group policy client service" takes several minutes to shutdown

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Wed Jun 23, 2021 2:49 am

Since a few days my X240s (running W7 Pro/SP1/64-bit) has a shutdown problem.
After activating the "Verbose" shutdown, it shows this:
Shutting down Group Policy Client service ...
which then takes up to several minutes to finally switching off.

Searching online, nobody seems to have a proper solution, all a lot of blah-blah.
Anybody here with a working suggestion?
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Darn, and you can't even give your usual advice "Dump W10".

Your computer is not in a domain, is it? Or maybe it thinks it is, and the group service server is not responding (because there is none), and that's what's causing the issues?

The only advice I saw where someone claimed it might help is disabling UAC, but that is advice I am pretty reluctant to give. Can't see the connection either.

Interesting, I've been having the same issue for maybe a couple months, but on Win10! Doesn't always do it, and I've never had the patience to wait for shutdown.
