Windows Live Essentials (Where is it?)

Hi,

I want to try out Windows Live Essentials. Because I need a good photo gallery app.

I found links to download on Microsoft website, but those links are broken.
Where can I get a good copy of Win Live Essentials?

correction. looks like i need the suite called "Windows Essentials 2012"

Not the one called "...Live...".

Because I only really want the Photo Gallery part.

As far as I know, it's the same thing.

It's the same thing. The installer for 2012 pops up with "Windows Live Essentials" but in other parts it calls itself "Windows Essentials".

Look for the setup file "wlsetup_all.exe" that's 130 MB in size. It has photo gallery, movie maker etc. in it.

ok. Installed the Microsoft Live Photo Gallery on my Win7. It works great with photos, but it cannot sort MOV video files (based on date taken).

Try installing the K-lite codec pack. It should have the VFW codecs that will let Movie Maker, Photo Gallery, Media Player and Explorer index and play MOV files.

Microsoft discontinued those things and got rid of the installers in favour of the Windows 10 and 11's built in apps.
But the issue is the built in photo's video editor is missing the simplest tools that's required to make anything suitable for YouTube, and I don't know why something like that is even a true Movie Maker replacement...
Either way, if you want to, those apps work just fine on Windows 10 (and probably also 11). It might struggle with mov files from iPhones and also if you use HEVC on a modern smartphone, but typical mp4 files from Android and Windows Phone work just fine.

I installed the K-lite codec pack, but Windows7-Photo-Gallery still will not sort MOV files properly.
