My first thoughts on 7

#1 Post by Stargate199 » Fri Jan 09, 2009 10:35 pm

Let me go ahead and say FIRST!!!
Okay now, I just installed Win7 build 7000 on a machine with the following specs
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz
2 GB DDR2-SDRAM 667MHz
GeForce 7300 with 256MB
160GB SATA
Intel ABGN Wireless
Bluetooth 2.0

One thing I have notice which contradicts what people said about 7 is that on my system is boots slower than Vista. This may be because I used vLite to cut crap out of the OS. Windows 7 uses A LOT less memory than vista currently I am using about 900MB-1GB on vista. On 7 it is around 500-600MB. The os seems a little snappier than Vista. UAC is a lot less annoying and I like the new Action Center centerrolls Security Center and Problems and Reports center into one center. I seem to have some problems with the wireless, but I am going to blame that on a driver issue than an OS issue for now since I am only using the supplied Win driver. I LOVE the new taskbar. It is a lot cleaner and easier on the eyes. I will be testing over the next few days and will add to this post on my thoughts. Good luck to everyone testing.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I've just installed Windows 7 on my T60 using a 320GB 7200rpm disk.
It's really superior to Vista, without a doubt. It's fast!

My mods this far:
- Windows Classic theme
- ClearType Off
- Taskbar apperance -> Use small icons
- Taskbar apperance -> Buttons: Never combine
- IE8 -> Turned off bookmark bar

Hmmm, I'm used to beeing harsh with Microsoft products. But this time they might be on to something really good :)

I couldn't get my favorite program, Alpha XP, to run in Windows 7. It works fine in Vista in compatibility mode in Vista. Other than that Windows 7 ran fine on my R60. Vista has always run well on my R60, but interesting is laggy on both my AMD desktops for some reason, both of which which have faster CPUs and more memory than my notebook.

has anyone been able to get the active protection system functioning? the software is installed, however, the option to enable APS is grayed out.
