T400/X200/X301 Fingerprint anyone?

#1 Post by DirkM » Sat Jan 10, 2009 10:58 am

Installed the Lenovo FPR software, didn't work but Windows 7 told me that there is an update available from Authentec Inc, installed the updated driver after removing the Lenovo package but the driver doesn't seem to include the utility to register fingerprints and logon via FP.

Do I have to wait for Lenovo or did anybody get this working already?

I can't even get the driver to work with my X300. I installed the software from this link:

http://www.authentec.com/win7beta32.cfm

The software installs fine, but the driver is still not loaded. I even directed the Driver Update function to search the drivers folder, but it still won't select the driver. What is the exact model of the Authentec chip included in the X300?

If all you want to do is logon with FP, just install the driver from AuthenTec (Use the Windows 7 driver from the website). Then go to control panel and click on Biometric Devices. There you can enroll your fingers for logon. It's nice the 7 has this built in.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I did that, and it still Windows 7 still won't load the driver. It says that no drivers can be found for the device. I even went into the Authentec directory in program files (under the Drivers subfolder) and tried every single Authetec chip listed in the driver file. Every driver I tried said "Cannot start device"

The fingerprint reader works fine in Vista Business. with my X300

Nice, I guess there is something new in Windows 7 after all. I got my finger print scanned and enabled logon to domain in "change biometric settings" but I don't seem to be able to actually logon to the domain or unlock the screen using finger prints. I do have the AuthenTec driver 8.0.10.9064 installed on my X301 that was offered by W7. Is there anything else that I'm missing?

Thanks,
Dirk
