Windows 7 indeed seems to be really superior to Vista (Ultimate). It recognized all the components of my t42p - without having to install any drivers except the 2200gb one (it listed other three components as unrecognized; however, after a simple "look around on net", everything just worked). Sure, it has some minor software incompatibilities (for example, neither the WinCE FS plug-in nor T-PoT work for Total Commander; not even the latest, Vista-compliant versions of Alcohol seem to work), but still far fewer than with Vista.
A quick warning: if you have OS X on your PC (and its boot manager is the active one), you *will* need to use EasyBCD to restore the OS X boot. With "plain" Windows XP, this won't be needed - the boot loader of the previous OS will be preserved.
I'll also install it on my a31p - I'll report on this later.
After having pretty bad luck with Vista on my TC1100 (it was REALLY slow and didn't recognize, among other things, my Intel 2200gb), I had pretty good success with Win 7 on it too. Currently, everything seems to work

Re: Windows 7 on the t42p (and the HP TC1100)
Just installed Windows7 Beta 32-bit, and Opera 10 Alpha. Needed the Intel 2200BG drivers. A search on the net suggested using the XP drivers, not the Vista ones. I downloaded the drivers from the following Intel webpage and they work fine.
Intel® PRO/Wireless and WiFi Link Drivers-Only for Windows* XP
Now it looks like I might have to go into the BIOS to disable the TouchPad. Without the UltraNav drivers to disable it, that thing is driving me nuts!

Installed the Sierra Wireless 3G watcher for my 860 AirCard, and it works fine.

Good news, the Vista 32-bit UltraNav drivers work (I installed 32-bit Windows 7 Beta)! I was able to disable the touchpad and now I have scrolling in Opera!GomJabbar wrote:Now it looks like I might have to go into the BIOS to disable the TouchPad. Re: Windows 7 on the t42p (and the HP TC1100)
Attempted to install Win7 on my Motion Computing m1400. Most the things that worked in Vista worked in Win7 except for video so I was stuck at 800x600. Put Vista back on it. My TC1100's hard drive died so until I can find my spare IDE drive and my extra 1gig stick of DDR it is just going to sit around collecting dust. Buying a new larger hard drive for my T60 so I can try out the beta on it without messing with my girlfriends Sims 2 save
