Win7 on T61: issue with TPFancontrol & OSD

#1 Post by agarza » Tue Feb 10, 2009 3:08 pm

I can't get to show the window of the TPFancontrol even though I installed it as a service, it doesn't appear on the notification area.

Even when I got it to work it activates/deactivates the fan on 5 sec intervals. There was so easy setting up the service with version 0.17 of Fancontrol on XP. I like "Vista 7" but would really like the fan control functionality.

Did anyone was able to install Onscreen display. I get an error regarding a server I dunno.

I haven´t tried to install tpfancontrol on Win 7 yet, but OSD works for me without problems. Maybe as a side note: I found out that the Power Management driver is needed to make hotkey/onscreen display work.

I have a T42. The Lenovo PM driver was installed by W7b on the first W7b update. I installed the Lenovo System Interface driver for Vista and the Hotkey driver for Vista, and the on screen display works fine here. Haven't tried TPFC.

I installed in this order:
1. Lenovo System Interface Driver
2. Thinkpad Power Management Driver 1.52
3. Hotkey driver (OSD + FullScreen Magnifier)

when installing OSD a pop up window appears:

Don't know what else to do. I'm using the latest version of the Hotkey driver from Lenovo's site.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. As a side not I did not installed the chipset drivers I'm not sure if this would be the cause

IIRC, I got that error with the UltraNav driver, but it seems to work ok. I can't remember if I got that with the Hotkey driver or not, but the onsceen display and magnification work fine.

I just installed an older version, the same error pop up but rebooted. Now it shows after restart.
Wonder why the volume display on XP range from 0-25 while on Vista/7 goes to 0-50.

The HotKey driver gives that error because it fails to add the extension to display properties to enable/disable on-screen display. The location in the registry has different permissions compared to Vista.

You can ignore that error, as the HotKey driver still gets installed.
I wasn't sure how to toggle the onscreen display with Win7, so I just use MSConfig to disable/enable the "TPOSDSVC.exe" startup program.
