Windows 7 RC1 MSDN installed only 1 issue with drivers

#1 Post by johnp126 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 1:40 pm

There are 2 devices that come up most probably related, anyone have any ideas?

PCI Serial Port
PCI Simple Communications Controller.

All otherwise ok so far, have lots of software to installed, Did a clean install on blank disk. so far FAST! quick much better response than Vista64 but also no apps installed yet.

I might have missed something- but what kind of ThinkPad are you testing the Win7 RC on?

I'm pretty sure the scc is the intel amt device.. on my x200 the 2 drivers that were needed were:

7vr109ww Intel AMT Management Engine Interface
7vr212ww Intel AMT
installed in that order

look under your model's vista drivers

the serial port- not sure- fingerprint, modem?
ThinkPads ... T61p(4x3), X61s, 820

My T61 had Win7 installed without any problems whatsoever.

I forget which one of these devices I had on my T500 / switchable graphics, but one was the WWAN network adapter (the modem installed with Win7RC) and the other was the 5-in-1 card reader.

The WWAN adapter (mine was AT&T/Vodaphone) said it wouldn't work with this version of Windows, so I told it to run in Vista SP1 compatibility mode.

The other device was the Ricoh card. I found that driver in a subdirectory c:\swtools directory that came with the preload.

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (latest RC - MSDN version) version with only 1 problem (the usual vga driver issue) on a Thinkpad R50e (model 1834-J9G).

Wifi works perfectly, as does the ethernet NIC...

Video driver (even using the 'mod-ed exported version) refuses to work (disabled by Windows) and I'm left with the standard VGA driver - Resolution of 1024x768 was good BUT - NO external video display, and no shared/split screen for presentations... Grrrrrrr!

Otherwise - a nice O/S.... Pity that I'll be going back to Vista - But I need my laptop for presentation work!
