Official Win 7 RC on TechNet/MSDN now & to public on May 5th

The official Win 7 RC is now available to TechNet and MSDN members for download (I'm downloading the x64 image as it type), and will go out to public download on May 5th.

I skipped Vista on purpose, just missed the window for downloading the official Win7 beta due to a very heavy international travel schedule, so I'm more than ready for the RC of Windows 7. I will be installing it on a new hard drive in the ultrabay of my T500 so as to have a dual boot setup with XP. This is the first time I've been truly excited about Windows in some time.

I got lucky and scored a download from Tech Net before the servers reportedly choked up due to demand.

Windows 7 beta was pretty good, and after less than a day with the RC1 version, things still look darn good.

My ThinkPad T60 runs a tad cooler with Windows 7 vs. Vista and is peppy and stable. Office 2007 plays very nicely with this new OS.

XP is "oh so very yesterday" now, and I'm pleased with Microsoft's latest offering.

Just a couple of ThinkPad features are not working too well, like Sleep and Fn+F5, but I don't miss them. Hibernate is nearly as fast as Sleep anyway.

How large is the download?

3.05GB for the x64 version. The x86 version is a bit smaller.
