X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
Windows 7 RC is going crazy on my X41t. After it starts up the pointer goes straight the the bottom right hand corner and activates the date, then bounces immediately to the start menu and opens the start menu. It then bounces back and forth activiting these two menu.
If I turn the keyboard mouse off there is no problem...but I have no mouse. If I turn the bios mouse control to enable it bounces. If I install a BT mouse and turn off the KB mouse...it still bounces. If I use a USB wireless mouse...still the same problem.
The stylus seems to work fine with the mouse turned off in the bios. But, if I point it at those same two corners...it looks like it is trying to open the date or start menu.
I personally think it is a conflict with the mouse and or pointer drivers.
Any solutions?
Bill

Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
I've read several others' experience but don't remember hearing such issues. Is it on a clean install or after drivers and utilities are loaded...?
Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
Yes...it is a clean installation. Last night I installed Windows XP-Pro with no problem. I also booted Ubuntu with no problems. It appears to be a Windows 7 problem unless perhaps I have a bad keyboard/mouse that just does not like Windows 7.

Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
If it's working properly in XP & Ubuntu, then it's clearly a software issue with Win 7.billp117 wrote:Yes...it is a clean installation. Last night I installed Windows XP-Pro with no problem. I also run XP Pro, Ubuntu & Win 7.
The first clean install of Win7 produced a similar result to what you are experiencing. Nearly identical. I wiped the partition, started over with a fresh / clean install of Win7 and now it's fine. I would suggest you start there.
Cheers...

Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
OK...I may have it 90-95% solved. I did another format of the hard drive...the full method (not quick) after removing the old partion for the third time. I then installed Windows 7 again and this time the mouse is more behaved...but not perfect. I can Open IE Explorer 8.0 and it will immediately go to the date (not open it this time, or go to the Start menu (did open it once). But most the time the pointer will now stay in one place, but after a short while will drop to the date with the browser open.
I guess for now I can live with this but look forward to MS tweaking the mouse problem on the ThinkPad...the X41t. All of my other installs of Windows 7 went just fine for my Z61t, T43, T42, T60p. As i look at the screen I think there must be something running in the background that make the pointer jump to the date. If and when it become 100% stable I will let you know.
So for now...Windows 7 will become my primary OS for the X41t, 1.5Mhz, w/ 1.5 GB memory and 60 GB HD. The Windows 7 score is 1.0 due to the Intel graphics.
Thanks again for all the help.
Regards, Bill

If you have not already, try running Firefox in safe mode to isolate this issue.billp117 wrote:I have the same problem with FireFox.

OK...tried another route. This time I turned off the following items in the bios: serial and par. ports, infrared, and it seems to be working for now. Will let you know.

Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
I've seen this behavior in Linux when the wrong mouse driver was chosen. You should install the appropriate UltraNav driver for your system.

If for some reason that doesn't fix it, try upgrading the Video driver. You might be able to do that by using Windows Update. The only other thing that I think could cause this would be an IRQ conflict with another device. In that case you might be able to change to a different IRQ for the mouse driver in Device Manager.

Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
OK...decided to install Ubuntu 9 onto the HD in a seperate partition. Although Ubuntu 6 ran fine off of the DVD and XP ran fine I guess I was just lucky. After all the updates...it seemed OK. Then I activated the screen saver and it went crazy again. I now suspect the keyboard is defective.
Maybe?

Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
I replaced the KB and still have the problem with Windows 7. Ubuntu is very stable and I only noticed the problem just one time.
I will try to lay my hands on a set of X41t recovery disks and do a clean install of Windows XP Tablet 2005.
Thanks for all the suggestions. The Windows 7 beta drivers did not help.

Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
Just snagged a X41t off eBay and want to install Win7 when it arrives,so I'm following this with interest. Win 7 has worked great on several installations so far - T43, T41, old desktops

Re: X41t - Mouse pointer going crazy
Looks like the latest Windows 7 download version is better...but not perfect. At least the mouse behavior is about 95%.
