Windows 7 OSD

#1 Post by patelpirata » Tue Jul 07, 2009 1:31 pm

So I was sick of Vista Basic on my SL300 and it started getting Windows Explorer Errors the second day having it. So, i decided to install Windows 7 RC. After doing so, I wanted the Volume buttons to work, so i got the appropriate driver, being the hotkey buttons, for the OSD. It didn't work. Can anyone shed some light on there? Maybe Lenovo needs to make them for windows 7 still?

First, install the ThinkPad system interface driver, then the hotkey driver. I assume there is a page at lenovo with support for your SL300, and you should be able to find those two downloads there. Windows 7 may throw an error about "may not have installed correctly". Ignore that, and don't worry, be happy.

mgo is correct about the needed drivers. Lenovo has a special page with beta versions of the drivers specifically for Windows 7, so try those.

Hey, thanks for the link; nice to see that Lenovo is being so prompt with Windows 7 support.

Well, I did install the windows 7 drivers, in the specified order. Yet no avail. They popped up as programs wanting to start with question to allow to them to run, so i let them run, yet they don't work (the vol buttons on the side). The drivers installed successfully with out a hitch, yet it doesn't work =/

Any Ideas?

Not sure this will help, but I found this post on the Lenovo forum that mentions OSD problems on the SL400 and SL300.

Not quite, but the information was valued.

I've found that when i adjust the volume via the slider in windows, the OSD Display works. I think it's just a problem of powering the side buttons, for volume, becuase the lenovo care button isn't lite blue and the buttons still don't work =/

Easy fix for that. Just uncheck "ask each time" (or some similar question-I forgot the wording) and those programs will load without nagging you from then on. It appears the new drivers install a little differently, and that is the reason for the security question.

Perhaps Lenovo hasn't yet worked out the Windows 7 driver details for all of the different ThinkPad models. I'm sure they will eventually.

Update:

So, I decided to try again, and get the OSD to work. Well, I installed the windows 7 beta drivers and when I lower the volume with my mouse in the volume slider, it shows the green bar, as it should, but still the volume buttons don't work =/

Update #2

I decided to delve deeper and found this:
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/mess ... 1495#M1495

Following his drivers for the sl500, and with the windows 7 beta driver for the hotkey features, the volume is working with the osd and side buttons :D

All done. :D

Thanks!
