Windows 7 released to manufacturers

#1 Post by Dimitri_P » Tue Jul 28, 2009 7:33 pm

it is known by now, that win 7 was released to manufacturers, including Lenovo.

Might as well change the forum title to just "Windows 7"

I would leave it as "Beta" as long as the 7 isn't officially available either with a new ThinkPad or standalone.

Or at least till it gets thrown up on the internet for the TechNet/MSDN people.

The Win 7 forum here remain as "beta" (or similar) until Windows 7 becomes generally available (GA Release) from Microsoft.

While the RTM stage for the Microsoft code to the industry has been achieved, there is still a way to go across the industry in terms of 3rd party Win 7 drivers and other software completing their respective development cycles against the newly available Microsoft RTM code.

Cheers,

Bill B.

Maybe, but I have found that drivers have not been a problem in any W7 system I have used for a few months now. We have 4 W7 systems in my house, and only 1 had a necessary driver that was not installed automatically (sound driver for a Dell Inspiron). Software may have to be tested against RTM code, but driver framework hasn't really changed since Vista.

To share my experience, I'm using the lenovo NVidia 140M Vista driver for my Windows 7 Professional RTM installed in the T61 14.1 wide machine, so far so good.

Sorry for being late in replying this thread. Day back to late August, I installed most of the drivers available in the Thinkpad BETA section, with two exceptions:

- I have to install the Vista version of "ACPI Power Management Driver" in order to have my system working properly
- Using the old Vista Nvidia 140M driver as the one for Win 7 wasn't available

And one problem found:
- Every time when I start my machine from Sleep/Hibernate, it just crashed and have it restarted
No solution in the meantime, let's see if the new drivers are available and I have to shut down my machine every time. Anyway, shut down Windows 7 just takes me 5 to 15 seconds :) (Same as my tweaked version of Windows Vista Enterprise previously installed)

I'm now trying to install the new "System Update 4" designed for Windows 7, let's see how many drivers available to download.
