HELP!! ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 doesnt work in Windows 7

Recently I bought a T500 with discrete video card (ATI Mobility Radeon 3650). I downloaded window 7 ultimate yesterday from my company's Microsoft msdn. Everything works perfectly besides the discrete video card.

On my T500, i have both discrete and integrated video card. Only the integrated video card works (Intel(R)?? chip). The driver manager found both hardware, but it failed to load a proper driver for ATI Mobility Radeon 3650. In windows 7 driver manager, it founds the following 4 drivers to use, but none of them works.

1) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
2) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (prerelease - WDDM 1.1)
3) ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (Microsoft corporation - WDDM 1.1)
4) Standard VGA graphics adapter








I have google this problem and tried several solution I found, but none of them works...

This one is pre-release version, which doesn't work anymore (or just not work on t500?).

I can't install the catalyst program. It was complaining about incompatible GPU (graphic process unit?).

By using this, I can correctly installed that catalyst program, but when I tired to use the catalyst wizard/advance (it's called ccc wizard/advance). It can not find the wizard..................!?


4) Lenovo site doesn't even have the driver for ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 for windows 7

When your installing the drivers is the discreet GPU enabled?

You're probably going to have to wait for the official driver from Lenovo. Microsoft has been discouraging hybrid graphics machines in Windows Seven like the T400/T500.

Maybe you could configure Bios to disable the built in card, then try to install the 3650, or you could install the given controller for the card, then redirect the INF to some proper driver which you intend to install. Though the CCC converter, from graphics modder people, should work i suppose. DriverHeaven. the Mobility Modder tool.

F1 into bios select discrete mode. log on windows will detect the 3650 and install automatically from win update if necessary and your good to go. MS recently added there own ati drivers and work great now only problem is switchable via os not working yet...Windows 7 feels like its made for the t500 IMO like a dream speed of xp coolness of vista and finally easy networking vis Homegroups

Windows 7 does not offer native support for hybrid graphics systems.

The only thing that comes to my mind here is WTF? Wasn´t Windows 7 supposed to support it in an improved manner over Vista (like with SSDs, triple channel etc) With Windows 7 it was my first time I really became fan of Windows, I guess it was about to become too good to be true

I did try to update/install the driver with win7 device manager. However, I don't think it worked. It says The best driver software for your device is already installed, which is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (MS WDDM 1.1), but when i enabled the device, it says This device cannot start (Code 10).

WHY!!!!

I just checked on the possible updates from windows, and one of the newest updates (listed as Aug 09) in optional updates was the driver for ATI 3650. After the update, I restarted the box, but it kept on freezing, so I went to bios and set it to discrete graphic card only, and then it WORKED!

It sucks that I have to manually change in bios to use discrete/integrated, but at least it works now Thanks again.


PS. Please let me know if win7 starts to support switchable graphics!

Did you try the AMD M8x Switchable from this link:

I installed it and work fine, but i don't use switchable graphics. I did read in the Lenovo forum that a member said it's working with switchable Graphics. My computer where i installed this driver is a W500.
