Re: [poll] Upgrade to Win7 on your T6x
I already pre-ordered Windows 7 Pro for half-price and I will definitely install the 64-bit version to replace the Vista Business x64 on my T61.

Re: [poll] Upgrade to Win7 on your T6x
Since there is no way to let T60p use more than 3GB memory, I chose 32-bit Win7 Pro RTM which is already running in my T60p. I am just waiting for a product key from MSDN to activate it.
Core 2 Duo T7600, 3GB DDR2-667 RAM, Main 7K320 320GB 7200RPM + Ultrabay 320GB 5400RPM, ATI FireGL V5250, 15" IPS UXGA, DVDRW, Bluetooth, Atheros ABGN, NMB Keyboard, Fingerprint, Win7 Pro X86 + Vista 64-bit SP2, Advanced Dock.

This poll needs an "I don't know/haven't decided" response, which would have been mine.

How about those who have already upgraded to Win 7 ?
IBM Lenovo Z61p | 15.4'' WUXGA | Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 2x 2.16GHz | 4 GB Kingston HyperX | Hitachi 7K500 500 GB + WD 1TB (USB) | ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 | ThinkPad Atheros a/b/g | Analog Devices AD1981HD | Win 7 x86 + ArchLinux 2009.08 x64 (number crunching)

But now "already using it" doesn't reflect if you're using 32-bit or 64-bit. Also for some machines (e.g. mine, T60p) there is no 64-bit option.istudio wrote:as requested I have added extra voting choices
Re: [poll] Upgrade to Win7 on your T6x
For some reason I get better Blu-ray playback under XP on my R60, which has tends to have issues under Vista or Windows Seven. It means I'll be sticking with XP on my R60 for the foreseeable future. On my desktops I'll be sticking with Vista, which isn't all that bad with a clean install and some tweaks. Both Vista and Windows Seven look better than XP, though some of that can be mimmiced with software like WindowBlinds. There's one piece of software I need to work in Seven, that I've not found a way to get to work in Seven, AlphaXP. It makes transparent most of those annoying little tooltips when you mouse over them, effectively getting rid of them. It's my biggest pet peeve with Windows. There's no easy way to get rid of them for some reason. AlphaXP works great in 2k, XP and 32 bit Vista, but they changed something in 64 bit Vista, which seems to have carried over to Seven. If I could find a way to get it to work, I'd probably upgrade, but until then I'm sticky with what I got, which is XP and Vista.
I don't really see what's so great about Seven anyway. It looks better, but so does Vista. Most of the touted enhancements like the improved taskbar or search for example are things I rarely if ever use. I did not perceive it to be much slower or faster for the things I do so the marginal value is very low for me.

I haven't run XP or Vista since the beta of 7 and am now running RTM. I don't plan on going back to XP or Vista ad I feel Windows 7 is superior to both of them.

Re: [poll] Upgrade to Win7 on your T6x
While Vista and Windows 7 share much in common, there has been a lot of work done under the hood to improve the kernel. As a result Win7 is somewhat faster and more responsive and works well on older, more limited hardware. I converted all three of my PCs to 64-bit Win7 last month and have not looked back. I appreciate things like 18-second boot time, 7-second shutdown time, and smoother video on flight simulator. This is one Windows version update that you won't want to pass up.FredGarvin wrote:...I don't really see what's so great about Seven anyway. It looks better, but so does Vista.
