X301 Windows 7 Ultimate RTM Sucessful Upgrade

#1 Post by shfawaz » Mon Oct 05, 2009 5:13 pm

Just installed Win 7 Ultimate on my X301. Not a clean install, but actually an upgrade from Windows Vista Business. Went off without a hitch. Installed all the available Win 7 RTM beta drivers which also made for a smoother upgrade. So far so good, no issues at the moment.

Be sure to apply some optional updates that Win 7 offers including driver for video which seems to have stabalized some video issues I think I was having (erratic mouse and keyboard issues)

Maybe this helps anyone who is on the fence about doing an upgrade as opposed to a clean install. I had zero interest in starting from scratch, although that would probably is a better way, this was a time saver for me. This is the only machine I had running Vista in a stable of numerous Thinkpads that still run XP Pro. Not looking forward to that upgrade party!!

How long did it take?

The reason I ask is because many people have had experiences where the upgrade process takes hours whereas the clean install only takes about half an hour.

Actually this didn't take very long-although I can't tell you how long since I didn't monitor it. All I know is that I left for a couple hours and the upgrade was done by the time I came home.
