T42 CPU running very hot after Win 7 RTM install

#1 Post by Matt » Sun Oct 11, 2009 6:16 am

Installed Win 7 Enterprise RTM on my 1.7 GHz T42 last week, and the CPU has been running excessively hot (mid-80s C) under routine use (internet, word processing, etc). The fan unit was replaced with a new one a year ago. GPU temp is in the 60s C.

Is it mere coincidence that this is occurring after the Win 7 install? Or is there something that needs to be corrected?

I've installed W7 (RC not RTM however) on four different Thinkpads. I've never noticed the CPU getting hot unless I was watching videos (the video is a little strange in W7) or had the laptop on for an extended period of time. I was wondering if you did the usual tasks to rule out poor ventilation, scan for viruses, scan for malware, trojans, and if the thermal compound looks okay.
