Power Manager 3.05 always crashes ~ T60p 15" Win 7

Got the latest Power manager 3.05 off lenovo Win 7 driver/app page.

System tray icon and status runs fine, but whenever I try to launch the main app it crashes.

Any suggestions?

That must be some new version. The last time I looked (about 3 weeks ago), Power Manager was v2.43. It may require some .NET. You could also play with the UAC. If none of them works, the most likely it isn´t meant to be

this is version 3.05

I think the problem is in the graphics aspect of the program, since everything else works just fine, like battery percentage reporting, etc

Since version 3.05, mentioned in this thread and previous post kept crashing on me, I went ahead and installed latest Vista version off Lenovo website:

That went well and everything worked just fine without crashing.

What I did next, is go back and install 3.05 on top of 3.01a (or after, whichever way you put it - that is I did NOT uninstall 3.01a before installing 3.05 again)
Now 3.05 works without any issues at all...

Thanks for the link! I upgraded from v2.43 right to v3.05, so far with no problems. The new battery gauge 'taskbar button' design (for lack of better description) looks somewhat weird. To be honest, I prefer the older classic battery gauge. Having said this, the new power manager launches much faster, seems it has been farther optimized for Windows 7.

I spoke too early... Toggling 'percentage remaining' and 'time remaining' doesn´t work anymore. Anyone with the same issue? Also, the battery gauge likes to blink from time to time. And is there any other way to have the old battery gauge design back (apart from installing an older version of Power Manager)? Does anyone know which is the latest Power Manager version for Windows 7 using the older battery gauge? As for now, I´m reverting back to v2.43. The blinking battery gauge acts very distracting.

It will only show remaining discharge time ONLY when the battery is discharging.

In any other scenario it is percentage of total capacity

True! I always forget that or forget that my laptop is plugged in. Sorry for the false alarm! But the sporadic blinking and the weird button design are still an issue for me.

I agree with you Marin, I like the old style Battery gauge better! I also noticed that I cannot choose a power plan anymore by left clicking on the battery like I used to. I really liked that feature. Hopefully they get that functionality back, and give us and option for the classic gauge style.

I updated yesterday to the latest version of Power Manager and I have to say I am starting to like it altogether. I think it is just a matter of getting used to the new battery gauge design, and it is also handy because clicking on it is faster than pressing Fn+F3. The only downside of it is that it is not possible anymore to select a power profile right from the gauge. To be honest, right now I like it more than the old battery gauge It is just more windows 7-like including the soft green color and the integration into the taskbar. I guess people just don´t like giving up easily on habitual things

I had a similar issue. Just a simple redownload/install of the power manager fixed it for me. So that is another potential solution.

I upgraded to V3.05 on my Vista 64-bit machine and it works fine. Time remaining shows when on battery, charge percent only if on AC. However, this is one utility I do not use. Vista Power Management is actually very good, so I use it instead. .. JDH

Same goes for Windows 7. However, there is no way in windows power management to set up the desired battery charge settings.

I know, but I don't need these features. I have a 9-cell battery for my T61p, and if I suspend when not using for 30 minutes at a time, then the battery goes for about 6 hours. If I charge to whatever level I can get at lunch hour, it will go all day. That is good enough for me. Again, others will have different needs, so this is just the way I work. .. JDH

Anyone have a suggestion on how to install Power Manager 3.05 on Win 7. I've tried several times to manually install from download and from System Update to no avail. System update says I have no previous version installed... although I have a battery gauage on my taskbar.. just that none of the menu items work. System Update log claims to have a successful install and asks to reboot, but I get the same result.

The manual install from download says something to the effect that the software isn't compatible with my system. This is true with both 3.05 and 3.01a (thanks for the link!)

When I bring up the Control Panel, I get an error "Power Manager. An error occurred while loading resource DLL."

There is no Power Manager software listed in the "Uninstall Programs" listing - so I can't find a way to uninstall the previous version (whatever version it is, I don't know.)

This seems to be the last remaining issue since my upgrade to W7. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

2. Make sure your particular model and your particular Windows 7 is supported by PM Driver 1.55 and then install it.
3. Now make sure your particular model and your particular Windows 7 is supported by Power Manager 3.05 and if so, install it.

I currently have Hotkey installed (On Screen Display 5.32.00; Thinkpad Full Screen Magnifier 2.10)

I have PM Driver 1.55 installed - downloaded from lenovo.com.

The lenovo.com site says 3.05 is available for my machine/OS (http://tinyurl.com/PManager305) but it won't install - I get "Warning. Cannot run on this system."

Problem solved! Turns out the version I had installed was 1.6. I used regedit to remove all references to PWRMGR and disabled the service startup. Rebooted and ran the setup for 3.05 and it installed successfully.

This is not directly responsive to the OP, but someone was unhappy with the new Power Manager interface due to the inability to select the power scheme from the icon on the taskbar. I'm using PM 1.64 on an x60s in XP. When the Basic interface is selected, then a sliding gauge appears when left clicking the icon, but if Advanced interface is selected, a left click allows changing the Power scheme. Maybe it is different with v.3, but i was quite surprised to find this ability about 1 minute ago.

Now the only minor issue I have with the new interface is that it does not allow to display wattage being used. Yes, I am one of those who prefer to see watt usage on the taskbar.
