Ati Catalysts installs, but then missing

#1 Post by vinuneuro » Thu Oct 22, 2009 1:10 pm

I was able to successfully install Catalyst 9.3 but after the install and restart, I can't find any evidence of it. Eg. nothing in the system tray, etc. How do I access it?

Try going to display in your control panel and go to the advanced setting.

Your ATI controls should be there.

Not too sure on the icon but if there is an option to have one displayed it would be in the ATI control panel.

You can right-click in desktop and there should be some kind of tab to choose for Display properties. Remember to choose the settings tab and then advanced.

I'm using W7 alot these days so I forget what the exact route was through XP

If you are using anything as old as the T60(p) line or older, this is not surprising. Ask me why!

Ok I just realized that when I created the op, I only installed the drivers not Catalyst. I followed this:

http://windows7center.com/forums/11895-post11.html

Gom, I tried following that guide but am running into one big problem. Everytime I restart the computer, even if I previously uninstalled the display driver, the Standard VGA Adapter driver installs automatically. When I try to update the driver with the modded one, it says something to the extent of "Standard VGA Driver is the newest or best suitable" or something like that.

But even following that, only the driver gets installed. How do you install Catalyst Control Center properly and have the settings be accessible? Emaraldgirl, how did you do this?

I can´t tell about the driver, but here is way to install CCC 9.3 that worked for me: Go to ATI website and download the Radeon or FireGL driver package for Vista (the one that sounds closest to the hardware you have). Unpack it, but don´t start the installation, then use the Mobility Modder tool, run the setup program -> custom installation -> pick C++redistributable and ATI Control Center. Both should install without problems.

How did you get CCC 9.3 from6 the Ati site? For Firegl, they only have the driver available for download. For any of the Mobility Radeon chipsets, all you get is a page that says Ati doesn't currently support Mobility Radeon and that you should get the drivers from the manufacturer.

I had to get Catalyst 9.3 for Vista/7 by googling it and downloading from a third party site. I'm guessing it probably would've come up in the Ati site if I'd have checked under one of the desktop cards. Anyway CCC 9.3 installed fine without any problems.

But alas, no dice. Here's a screenshot of what I see in advanced settings. No sign of CCC anywhere. Am I looking the wrong place?

Also Marin, I am using a T60p. So is this a lost cause then? I'd think this should be able to work if you and Emeraldgirl are able to with R52 and Z61p, no?

After having been installed, the CCC should appear in the right-click windows menu. If you cannot find it there, then it has most likely failed to install (for details you can look at the installation log presented in the end of the installation).

A side remark: Now, when you mention your ThinkPad model, this makes things much easier. For further reference, when posting about something like this, the first (and best) thing to do is to mention your ThinkPad model :thumbs-UP:

I forgot to mention that you should look for the desktop driver packages, not for the mobile ones, because ATI doesn´t provide any drivers for their 'older' mobile graphics cards for Vista and Windows 7 (otherwise Mobility Modder wouldn´t be needed).

Back on topic, Z61p and T60p actually have identical hardware, so all you need to do is downloading ATI FireGL V5200 driver for Vista 32bit, unpack it, run Mobility Modder, start the setup program -> custom install -> c++redistributable-x86 and ATI Control Center. You won´t even need to reboot after that ;)

Where are you getting 9.3 from? Pretty much all of the desktop card packages point me to this:

I posted a link, for reasons I don´t understand you keep looking at the Radeon driver packages although you have a FireGL card...

Did you see the following in the link posted by plexman? Use Driver Sweeper.
So before we begin, these are the ingredients you want:

Windows 7
------------------------
Mobility Modder
Official drivers 32/64
AMD GPU Clock Tool
Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider
*Driver Sweeper
*Ati Tray Tools
To get the driver from ATI's site, you have to download the desktop driver. That is the driver that is modded.

Great thread folks. I got my stuff working correctly.

Setup:
Win7 32b
FireGL V5200

I went to ATI's site and downloaded the Windows 7 Radeon driver (NOT the Mobility Radeon), version 9.3 or 9.8 or something. Then I used Mobility Modder on it. All drivers were uninstalled, I rebooted in Safe Mode & ran DriverSweeper (make sure to uncheck the folder with the modded driver), rebooted & installed the drivers. It all worked just fine.

Could you please check the exact version of CCC you have installed (9.8 or 9.3)? Thanks! :)
