Power Manager gauge question

#1 Post by mortonofski » Mon Oct 26, 2009 9:34 pm

Hey all,

I've got Win7 up and running on my R61i, and the only gripe I've got so far is that unlike in XP, whenever I accidentally left-click the battery gauge it starts up the Power Manager interface, which is quite annoying (at least with XP it just gave you the menu, which could be dismissed quickly). I looked through the settings and couldn't find a way to disable that functionality. Am I missing something? Any thoughts, or should I just learn to live with it?

Thanks,
Mortonofski

You should learn to not left-click it :) Alternatively, you could use a slightly older version with the classic battery gauge. Or, alternatively, you may want to hide the battery gauge at all, for instance in order to save precious taskbar space :)

This annoys me too. Previously, you could change power profiles with the left-click menu, but now you have to open up Power Manager, which is quite slow.

Hopefully, Lenovo will change this with the next releases of Power Manager. It was really some good functionality they have took away from the new version.

This bugs me too. As a substitute, I'm using the ThinkVantage Status Gadget from my factory-installed Vista environment (the Power Manager gadget would have worked too, I'm sure). If you have such an environment backed up, it should be in C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\TVTGADGET. Not sure if an XP version will work, but my Vista version works great for me. (Lenovo does not post these gadgets online.)

Still hoping that a future rev restores the shortcuts.

I also am annoyed by the new power manager gauge operation! I used to love being able to choose the power plan by using the battery gauge. In addition, I don't care for the the curved line that surrounds the battery gauge area. Since I put my taskbar on the top of my screen, it does not come out right. Just voicing my opinion! Love Win 7 Though.

Given Windows 7's more useful battery icon in the system tray compared to XP, I just gave up on the awkward-looking taskbar battery gauge. I used to click it to change power profiles, but have now found Fn+F3 to work just as well.
