Q & A: Official Lenovo FREE Windows® 7 Upgrade Program

#1 Post by neukrisz » Sun Nov 01, 2009 4:59 am

Hi All,

I have ordered and paid my Windows 7 in the "Lenovo FREE Windows® 7 Upgrade Program" http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/windows7/

I'd like to know the followings:

1: Will I get a Win7 COA sticker as well?
2: Can I install that to my "clear" system? (Or I just can upgrade the existing/installed Vista OS)

If anyone knows this information, please share with me.

Thanks in advance!

You will get a an activation code for the media you receive. I don't think it will be a separate sticker. Here's a pic of what someone on the Lenovo forum received. We'll all know in a couple of days for sure, so wait for a different reply.

I think you'll be able to do a clean install or an upgrade. Again, a couple of days will tell.

here are some news:

"The Certificate of Authenticity (COA) that was included with the Windows 7 upgrade kit has a Product Activation Key. Once you have installed the upgrade, please attach your COA label to your upgraded PC."

"You can do either a clean and upgrade installation of Windows 7 to your PC originally loaded Windows Vista. Note that only a clean installation of Windows 7 is allowed if you have downgraded the OS from Windows Vista to Windows XP."

The product key/sticker is on the CD envelope (it self-activates once the computer is online again after installation). And you can do a clean install regardless of what's on your hard drive AFAIK -- at least I was able to use the CD to do a totally clean install on a brand new, just-formatted hard drive.
