MS Bluetooth mouse doesn't work - Windows 7 & X61 tablet
I have two identical X61 tablets, one running Vista Business, and the other, a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium. My MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 works just fine on the Vista computer, but not at all on the Win7 machine.
On the Win7 machine, the Bluetooth light is on and Fn+F5 lets me turn the bluetooth radio on and off. When I press the mouse's connect button it flashes red and green indicating that it's discoverable, but the Add a bluetooth device wizard won't find it.
The only difference I can see is that on the working Vista machine, Device Manager shows two HID-compliant mouse items as well as the PS/2 Trackpoint; the Win7 machine shows just one HID-compliant mouse and the Trackpoint. The Mouse Properties dialogue on one of the two Vista devices has 4 tabs - General, Driver, Details and Power Management. The other Vista device and the Win7 device have 3 tabs - as above except no power management.
Everything else on the Win7 machine seems to be working fine, and I much prefer it to Vista - but I would really like to get the bluetooth mouse working. Any ideas?

Adding bluetooth support can be tricky. You can try installing the ThinkPad Vista Bluetooth driver in Win 7, but you might not have success. The Microsoft Bluetooth stack is somewhat limited in my experience. If you can get the ThinkPad Bluetooth stack to work, I believe you will have more functionality.
Here is how I added the ThinkPad bluetooth drivers so that they worked properly on my T42 (XP).

Here is the Vista Bluetooth driver for your X61 (no Win 7 driver that I am aware of, but this may work).

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... bv05ww.txt (readme for above driver)
Here is a page to the newer Bluetooth software, but support for your model has been dropped.

Thanks - I can't get rid of the bluetooth devices/drivers/software that's on there now.
I uninstalled both bluetooth devices from Device Manager and rebooted, then tried installing the 7vbv05ww driver, but it keeps telling me there's newer bluetooth software already installed and refuses to continue.

I don't know. The step-by-step that I posted in that forum link is what worked for me in XP. Vista refuses to install the XP drivers for my Bluetooth radio in my T42, saying there is a conflict or something. There are no Vista or Win 7 drivers that I am aware of that work with my Bluetooth Radio except what Microsoft provides. At least your newer X61 has Lenovo provided Vista drivers available which gives you a better chance of success in Win 7.
Here is an idea - don't know if it will work (I am in XP at the moment and I don't know if Win 7 has the same features). Uninstall the Bluetooth devices in Device Manager. Install the Bluetooth Software. Disable (temporarily) the Plug and Play service (I believe you can do this from Administrative Tools in Control Panel). Reboot. Turn on the Bluetooth Radio. Run the Hardware Wizard from Control Panel and tell it that you have the disk for the driver. Point the wizard to the directory that contains Lenovo's .inf files for Bluetooth. I believe they should be in a subdirectory of C:\Drivers\. When done with the wizard, reenable the Plug and Play service.

Well... thanks anyway. I'm just not able to install the software from the 7vbv05ww package. I've uninstalled the Bluetooth device, turned off the radio, rebooted and then tried installing the lenovo software, and it won't do it because "there's newer software installed". Only I can't find it.
Re: MS Bluetooth mouse doesn't work - Windows 7 & X61 tablet
If you look in Device Manager for each of your Bluetooth devices, there should be a driver tab with the names of all the drivers being used. Search your hard drive for each file named and rename the files found. You will probably have to rename the files in safe mode, otherwise Window will just regenerate them. Note that each file found may be in more than one location. I suggest renaming them in case you decide you need them again.

Re: MS Bluetooth mouse doesn't work - Windows 7 & X61 tablet
There's no sign of a bluetooth device now. I try running troubleshooter and get "Unknown device doesn't have a driver". I checked the properties of the one bluetooth device before it vanished, and the driver tab said things like "unknown driver", "unknown version" etc. I seem to have come to a dead end with this - it looks like this computer just won't do bluetooth under Windows 7.
Update: Device Manager once again shows a Bluetooth Radio device. Unfortunately, its name is Unknown Device. Driver provider is Broadcom, driver date is 24/10/2006 version 5.1.2535.0. Driver details reports "Unknown device: No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device". When I click Update Driver, Search Automatically, the message is "The best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date. Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate."
