"Downgrade" from OEM Windows 7 64 to 32

#1 Post by ew6050 » Sat Nov 21, 2009 11:46 pm

I just received my new Lenovo x200s with Windows 7 x64 on it and it is a great machine but the drivers just aren't there yet and I want to "downgrade" it to 32 bit. Can I do this easily as the rescue and recovery medium I for factory restore I created is only for 64 bit.

Thanks!

You'll need either a 32 bit set of recovery discs or a Windows disc to downgrade to 32 bit Windows 7.

Check notebookreview.com forum. Somewhere there is a link to Win 7 Image downloads hosted by digital river. Not in format but something with .box extension.
There are instructions in the thread to convert to ISO and "burn" on to bootable USB flash drive (4GB). Believe you can use the same key from your win 7 x64 installation.
You need to googler program that will extract the key and OEM certificate from the installed system.
Also, the Win x86 will override your current installtion (clean install). Have system update on the USB flash drive also to grab all the drivers from the net.

Have fun,

David

Drivers for what? If it shipped the necessary drivers have already been loaded. Since you are on W764 just run Virtual PC with XP Mode and you can install other peripheral hardware if that is what you think you are missing. I see no compelling reasons for you to downgrade.
