Onscreen Display Troubleshooting Crashed OS

#1 Post by Maric » Fri Dec 04, 2009 5:49 pm

Hey just wanted to ask if anyone has been having problem with the onscreen display? It's been really buggy on my X60 running Windows 7 64-bit and sometimes just stops working. Finally yesterday it completely stopped working. So I started troubleshooting it first by uninstalling reinstalled which didn't fix the problem. So I uninstalled again and also this time the onscreen zoom as well and uninstalled. After it tried to reboot from uninstall it just crashed. It wouldn't even boot up windows 7 anymore after countless tries to reboot.

So finally went into safe mode and choose a restore point and it both brought back my OS and fixed the onscreen display.

I am loving windows 7 however just wondering if anyone been having problems with onscreen display? Also on a side questions I been a little confused with the hibernation timers. Is the laptop able to go into hibernation mode from sleep mode? Since it never seems to do so.

What is your version of OSD? I´m running v5.31 with no problems here. Have you the power management driver and the system interface driver installed and if yes, what versions? Did you make any changes since the restore?

I believe I finally realized why the onscreen display kept crashing. When using the my usb headphones I would disable the speakers from the playback devices. So when I would push the volume button it would crash the onscreen display. If anyone wants to experiment this is the reason why it was crashing.

Some time ago I was using USB speakers for a while, and I didn´t experience such problems at all (again Windows 7). The USB speakers were from Creative Labs. What model are your USB headphones?

It wasn't the usb headphones that were causing the problems. It was when I had to disable the speakers so the sound would be only coming from the headphones. So when I disconnected I forgot got to enable the speakers. So when I would push the volume button it would I believe the drivers would get confused since there was no speakers detected and it would crash.

Hey no problem thanks for the help though. People should be warned though that if you try uninstall the zoom magnifier it will completely crash your OS. Luckily I was able to system restore.
