Wired Ethernet driver for T61 on Windows 7 (64-bit)
I installed Windows 7 64-bit today on my T61 (7662-CTO) and everything seems to be working fine except my Wired Ethernet.
In Device Manager under Network adapters, there's an /!\ beside my Intel(R) 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection.
The driver is the most up-to-date one provided by Microsoft (3/26/2009 - 9.13.4.10) and the error is:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
I couldn't find a driver for this on the Lenovo website, the closest one I could find was this one for Vista:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67846
which wouldn't let me install it, claiming that it can't find any Intel network adapters.
Next I tried this generic driver from the Intel Website:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 5&lang=eng
which was updated on 9/1/2009 but after installing it, I get the same result as the Microsoft one.
I called up Lenovo and they said that if I had gotten Windows 7 through them, then the driver would have been included on the disk, but because I had purchased the retail version of Windows 7 Professional, there was nothing that they could do. This seems pretty ludicrous to me (a driver exists but because I bought Windows 7 retail they can't give it to me?) but after discussing it back and forth they actually just hung up on me!
Is anyone else having this problem? I'm not ruling out that it might be a hardware issue because honestly I haven't used the wired ethernet port in a long time. If someone has the Windows 7 DVD from Lenovo for the T61, can you extract the driver for me?

Try installing system update 4.0 and see if it pulls down the correct driver for you.

Thanks, unfortunately I already tried that - it doesn't find any updates for the ethernet driver when I run that.

Have you tried Windows Update > Optional updates?

I have it on my T61p, I can't recall if it was windows update or Thankvantage update or if it just worked out of the box but unless you have your NIC disabled in your bios somthing funny is going on.
Your not running any funny BIOS mods that may have messed up your NIC are you?
PS.
I'm running the retail x64 bit version too.

I've tried all the optional updates in Windows Update as well.
TTA, would you do me a favor and post the Driver Provider, Driver Date, and Driver Version Number? If you right-click on the Connection in Device Manager and hit Properties, then it will tell you.
If it turns out I've tried your version, then it's probably a hardware issue. I haven't done anything to the BIOS.
Thanks!

Mine is: Microsoft
Date: 3/26/2009
Version: 9.13.4.10
c:\windows\system32\Drivers\e1e6032e.sys
Details:
Provider: Intel Corporation
File Version 9.13.4.10 Built by WinDDK
(c) 2007 Intel Corp
It's not signed by Lenovo, so it looks like it was either included in x64 or came from windows update,
I do recall the Lenovo NVidia FX 570 driver is newer than the one on windows update.
I did two or three installs of x64 and X32, playing around with differnt certs, keys and stuff...
What I settled on was a plain vanilla install, (it found my ABGN wireless) connected to my wireless router, ran windows update then ran lenovo system update. If you did things the other way around windows update would give an error due to the older Nvidia driver trying to install over the newer lenovo one.

Seems to me I read somthing a few nights ago about about PXE breaking on one of the intel cards with 'something' (modded BIOS maybe) but it was late.GomJabbar wrote:I don't suppose this would apply to you?

I have a T61p (8891-CTO) and the wired Ethernet driver (Intel) came with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and worked straight of the box. I downloaded and installed the Wireless driver (Intel 3945) and associated Access Connections and all that worked as well. ... JDH

Re: Wired Ethernet driver for T61 on Windows 7 (64-bit)
Ahh, I have the exact same driver (Microsoft, 9.13.4.10) so I'm guessing it's a hardware issue, I guess I'll have to send it in - luckily I got the three-year extended warranty. I haven't played with Linux on my T61 so I'm not sure how it could have gotten damaged, but I did recently send it in for repairs on the fan so maybe something happened then.
Thanks for all your help, I'll keep you guys updated when I get it back in case someone else has the same issue.

I'd still check out the BIOS and booting with a live CD. I'm not sure lenovo will take it back without a bunch of troubleshooting or hassle unless you tell them it's running vista (or whatever it came with) and exhibits the same issue... especillay if you call at night and get India instead of Atlanta...bertrandom wrote:Ahh, I have the exact same driver (Microsoft, 9.13.4.10) so I'm guessing it's a hardware issue, I guess I'll have to send it in - luckily I got the three-year extended warranty. Re: Wired Ethernet driver for T61 on Windows 7 (64-bit)
Just wanted to follow up on this in case anyone was having a similar issue - it was not the driver at all. I changed my dying/dead battery for a brand new one and the Ethernet port works fine, I guess it was a power issue which is strange considering it was running off AC power but I suppose it still relies on the battery in some way. Thanks everyone for their help diagnosing the issue!

Double wow from here. Is this a provable hypothesis - does the incorrect behavior return when you temporarily put back the faulty battery?bertrandom wrote:I changed my dying/dead battery for a brand new one and the Ethernet port works fine
