XP Mode
Suggested RAM to run XP Mode in W764? Am using 3GB overall with 1GB from Intel Turbo so that makes 4GB total (I assume) on a T61 but XP Mode seems clunky. Seemed zippy inititally but once you install all the patches and antivirus and firewall (yes needs its own), seems lke it drags along reluctantly. lol.

Re: XP Mode
I use 512 MB and it seems OK, other than the built-in virtual mouse driver in XP Mode does not seem to work right with the TrackPoint device in the ThinkPad. It misses left-clicks about 50% of the time.
On a desktop machine, XP Mode doesn't have this issue with the mouse.

Re: XP Mode
I haven't ever tried the trackpad not even for normal use. Just like using a mouse period. Will try the trackpad and give you corroborative feedback when I get a chance. So am I correct in understanding that by default 256MB is allocated and you upped it so its 2x? How much RAM do you have in your system overall and is there any impact in W7 outside of XP Mode, from this reallocation?K0LO wrote:I use 512 MB and it seems OK, other than the built-in virtual mouse driver in XP Mode does not seem to work right with the TrackPoint device in the ThinkPad. It's the TrackPoint device; not a TrackPad. I have an intense dislike for track pads.
I've been using 512 MB on XP Virtual Machines for quite some time now so I forget what setting XP Mode installed with. If it was 256 MB then yes, I just upped it to 512 MB. Machine specs are in my signature - 4 GB of RAM. I've noticed no impact on Win7. For my typical usage, there is plenty of memory. Of course, when the XP VM is shut down or hibernated then there is NO impact on W7.

If i wanted to run the xp mode on my machine, along with win7 pro, i would still need to do all the updates and stuff for xp? wow, that is gonna be some work. Might make me consider just carrying the harddrive adaptor with the xp harddrive in it.
