****SOLVED**** Windows resolution question

#1 Post by merovigiam » Thu Jan 14, 2010 6:01 am

Hello people

I did some search (Google, at this forum, and many other forums) but couldn't find an answer yet.
I have some old programs that runs in full screen at resolution of 600x480.
And i want these programs running without any problem more than anything, and for this purpose i downgraded my vista do XP, and nothing else worked anymore. Then, now, i upgraded to 7, and still don't working fine, here what happens:

When i open the program, the resolution fall to 600x480 in full screen, but the display also drop to this resolution, within a black stripe around the image. When i close the program, it come back to 1480x900

I tryed many times, searching about compatibility or any option at video card or windows option but found nothing.

Is there a way to those programs run in full screen like the previous windows?

It is a x301 and is windows 7 rc-something

You are looking for "Screen Expansion" or "HV Expansion". Look in display properties. Some Thinkpads have a BIOS option for this.

All I see for Windows 7 itself is to right-click on the display, choose Screen resolution > Advanced settings > List All Modes > 640 by 480.

From the BIOS I can get to this setting from Config > Display > HV Expansion.

Well, i searched exactly at that menu at my bios, and the only option is to choose the default monitor, that is thinkpad or the other exits.

About windows, if i change the resolution to the smallest poossible, the windows does, and works in full screen, but only for windows!, if i open the program, the windows automatic change the window resolution to the 1440x900 and run the program the same way as nothing changed or happened, then when i close, the windows window resolution back to the it was before open the program, the smalles (that i believe is 800x600, im not at home right now)

THAT IS very annoying, you have sure about your information? what if my bios is outdated ._.?

Well I am in XP at the moment. In XP if I right-click on the display and choose Properties > Settings > Advanced > Displays > Panel, there is choice to "Scale image to panel size". I don't see such an option in Windows 7, but then again Lenovo does not have a Windows 7 display driver for my T42. I am getting my display driver from Microsoft Update.

Regarding the BIOS, what features are there depend on the model ThinkPad you have. I know that feature is available on my T42.

I found the solution: Downgrade the driver to the vista version. Now, when full-screen, does full-screen.

I Believe many people around don't understand the difference between play at full-screen and play with a higher resolution.

Thank you for your time Gomjabbar
