Is $650 too much for x100e, 4GB RAM, and a 40GB Intel SSD?

windows 7 pro x86 + x100e + intel x25-v SSD????

For the last month or so i've been looking for a new laptop. My options were limited to a CULV type ultraportable for college and work use. After a ton of research, my options were between the ASUS ul30vt-x1 ($800), the Alienware m11x ($1100 upgraded) and the x100e ($429, discount).

I eliminated the ASUS even though it had good hardware, but the build quality and keyboard was awful and the Alienware (from the reviews) isn't even out yet and the keyboard is smaller than normal while the display is super reflective and the built in battery is non-replaceable.

So I went with the x100e after I saw a demo at frys electronics. I was sold as soon as I started to type in a new word document. It was quiet, and the keyboard is the best and I would actually prefer to type on the x100e than my Razer Lacosta keyboard that I use on my desktop.

so want to know what you guys think:

As of today, I ordered a basic thinkpad x100e and only added bluetooth (total with shipping and arizona tax came to $482). I then ordered 4GB of 5300 memory and a 40GB Intel x25-v SSD from newegg (memory was $30 cheaper than the lenovo upgarde option and probably better quality) to install in system once i get it. I also have windows 7 professional x86 on hand to install since the basic x100e comes with the limiting home version.

anyways, I have 2 questions:

1. How do you think win7pro will run with 4GB of memory and a SSD (170mb/s read | 35mb/s write)???? I know the SSD w/TRIM support and 4GB RAM might seem overkill for the x100e, but the goal here is to speed up the system as much as possible. A 5400 2.5" HDD is just too slow. Slow boot, slow apps, slow system.

2. If you have a x100e or other thinkpad, would you consider installing a SSD?

thanks a ton, can't wait for your replies! :)

My thought would be if you're willing to spend $800 on the Asus, why aren't you getting an X200 from the outlet unless the no trackpad think is a deal-breaker for you? If you're not in a hurry I'd say you could get one under $700. That would offer you better quality, much better performance, less heat, more battery life, and a keyboard that I would guess is better than the X100e. Take that with a grain of salt as I've never seen a X100e.

I wouldn't buy new a single core CPU these days. That's just me. AMDs generally get worse battery life and generate more heat, never good things for a notebook. Good Luck.
