Client Security Solution 8.30 and data encryption
Hi
I have a X301 with Win 7 32 bit, TV CSS 8.30 and TV RR 4.3.
I want to encrypt about 3 GB of sensible data on my HD (SSD 128 GB from Samsung).
It seems there is no way to do this using TV CSS.
I used TrueCrypt and it (should) work, but I don't understand why I can't encrypt my data using the integrated TPM chip and TV CSS. What are they there for? Just password management? I must have missed something :smileymad:.
Can anyone explain how to use TV CSS for this purpose?
Thanks
Edmond

I use Windows 7 ultimate so BitLocker is available to me. Unfortunately Microsoft does not offer that feature on other operating systems except Enterprise.Edmond Dantes wrote:Hi

But what type of ThinkPad do you have? For example T43 is equipped with TPM v1.1 and BitLocker supports only v1.2 (as far as I know).

BL is a component of Ultimate and Enterprise.
To use TPM with encryption you need to upgrade to either version. Most likely you cannot get Enterprise so your practical option is Ultimate.
Use the Anywhere Upgrade in your current W7 OS, whatever flavor you are currently using ie Home
I recommend you go to 64-bit instread of 32-bit.
BL works on all TPs new and old with Ultimate and Enterprise and yes TPM will work. "Old" is relative. You need to consult the BL hardware requirements to make sure your TPM meets the version cutoff. It's not just a PW manager. Download and read the CSS manual from Lenovo.
TrueCrypt is open source. To get help with that you should consult thier forum for best advice as the demographics here probably have low correlation to TC users.
Let us know how it works out.
TC actually has some advantages over BL but for a small business BL is good enough IMO.
