Audio stutter when scrolling

#1 Post by kev009 » Thu May 27, 2010 9:06 pm

Hi,

I have Windows 7 on my T42. If I scroll heavily while playing back audio, the stream will stutter. I've tried altering the scheduling priority of the media applications but this doesn't solve it. It would rather seem that the graphics card is using too much I/O bandwidth or the kernel driver is too high in priority, but I don't know too much about Windows internals.

I'm running the last available Radeon desktop driver for the 9600 using Mobility Modder, but that didn't seem to help.

Any advice? It's rather annoying while web browsing.

How much memory installed?

Did you allow Microsoft Windows Update? You want to allow all the updates for the best drivers.

What else is running in the background? Some virus programs are memory and HD hogs. (Use Microsoft Essentials)

Did you set Windows 7 Control Panel (adjust visual efffects) for maximum performance?
(I let Windows choose the best performance)

Let us know if this helps...

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

All drivers are current per Windows Update and ThinkVantage System Update. Physical memory usage is 50%.

I will play around with visual settings, sounds like a good place to check!

Get both the critical and optional updates...they hide the video drivers in the optional section.

Yes, I always check that.

I disabled composting and some other eye candy and set my audio app to real time priority and it now requires deliberately fast scrolling to trigger. It appears only to happen when I use the low latency ASIO drivers for my sound interface.

Is there any further tweaking one can do to adjust interrupt priority and scheduling? I'd like audio to be first in line.

Well, I can get the same out of MME and DirectSound playback as well. It's really bad when scrolling an Office document :(.
