Hi all,
I've upgraded my system to Win 7. As you can imagine its simply a blank system. Of course think vantage update plug all the drivers and all however I'm still missing ThinkVantage button functionality, service partion and recovery - all those jazzy things which really make Thinkpads stand out.
Any ideas how I can mount that manually at all ?
Readin RNR documentation, it does give some instructions how to instal RNR on a separate partion - S:, but thats not quite the same, as I'd like to have full pre-desktop functionality, also I would to be able to build my own image for restore and also make RNR partion totally protected from any external influence.
I'm not an IT pro, rather a power user of some sort, so I can figure out some tools and concepts but I need help. I've read in some other manual that lenovo RNR partion is even protected on BIOS level. Is that so ? - if yes what are way to replicate it ?
So basically I would like to get as close as possible to what it looks like from the factory, but with my own image for restoration.
Any thoughts or guides on that ?

Re: Creating lenovo RNR service partion from scratch on Win 7
The only way to get a factory image with a recovery partition on a Thinkpad is to use recovery CD's from Lenovo. The use of those discs will completely erase the drive, so what you have on it today will be gone. Yes the recovery partition interfaces with BIOS from a security perspective. BIOS keeps it hidden.
Re: Creating lenovo RNR service partion from scratch on Win 7
can this somehow be replicated manually ?
i have 2 problems with original lenovo cds'
1) I dont have them as machine was shipped with vista originally
2) i dont like too much original build anyway, i would like to be able to build my own, where I would have everything configured as i want it to be etc, and have it work as a restore
well ok, here is another question then. if for example i will be able to obtain win 7 recovery cds and reinstate drive to the original factory state is there anyway to substitute original image of drive with the one i designed myself ?
