Win7 on T60 with v5200?
Anybody try Win7 on a T60 with a v5200? I know on Vista, the computer stinks. Takes forever to boot, lost 10fps playing CoD4 compared to XP (I have a second HDD with Vista on it that I periodically put in, update, and try out). Does Win7 work well on the T60, or should I stick with XP?

Re: Win7 on T60 with v5200?
to give you an idea, i am running Windows 7 quite happily on an X60 with the 1.83GHz Core Duo (regular, not ULV), 4GB DDR2 (3GB usable), 250GB WD Black, and it runs about the same as XP but overall feels a bit 'smoother' in everyday use.
i have never run Vista on my X60 but i have had it on other similar spec machines and its totally SLOW. yes the difference is night and day.
i have even had Windows 7 on an 'old' Panasonic ToughBook, Pentium-M 1.6GHz/1.5GB RAM/ATI 9600 and it flew even on those specs. and Vista was dogsh*t slow on the same machine.
with a Core 2 Duo in your T60 i don't see how you could go wrong.

Well I guess my worry is more video card driver related than Win7 related. I.e. is there good driver support for the V5200, which there wasn't for Vista?

I cannot say about a T60, but Vista Business 64-bit ran blisteringly fast on my my T61p and now with a new hard drive, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit is also very, very fast. I think Windows 7 boots faster, but either system ran / runs fast on the T61p. I shouldn't think the T60 is all that different, but maybe it is. ... JDH

Re: Win7 on T60 with v5200?
I seem to recall Matt Kohut at one point writing that the T61 on Vista and T60 on Vista are two totally different things just because the T60 didn't work well with Vista, but by the time 7 came around the T60 was old hat so there was no discussion of this. The reason I ask is I'd like to put an SSD in my T60, and while it does technically work, XP just doesn't play nice with SSDs and requires you disable too much for my liking. That and it'd be nice to be able to color manage my entire Windows experience, not just Photoshop.

Hi Marlin,
I'm running a t60p 8744 j2u with an Intel x25m 80 GB Postville and Windows 7 Pro.
The installation was perfect right from the Microsoft .iso. The video was detected with the standard MS windows update post installation.
With respect to the SSD. It's running at about 139 MB/s according to various HD benchmark applications. This is likely the SATA I limit of the Lenovo hardware.
Best of luck

I'm running Windows 7 Professional on a T60p with a FireGL V5250 which should be similar enough to the V5200. I found this thread http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=83759 and have installed what appears to be the ATI Catalyst 9.11 drivers. They work well for me. Apparently there's also an upgrade to the 10.2 drivers which are much more recent.
I guess this means that there is decent support for the FireGL V5200, just that it's unofficial
