Windows 7 Admin-rights and shortcuts

#1 Post by friedrich-eugen » Sun Aug 15, 2010 12:28 pm

Hello,

I do find my self in the process of transition to Windows 7 from XP.

In doing so (not unsing the migration tool, as my old installation stretches over several partitions (system, programs, data)) I found myself looking for a way to change/adapt/insert some of my old structures within my ID (old) into the new one.

I find myself however incapable, although part of the admin group, to access those folders. My trials, to change the scope of my admin-rights did not succeed, too. Reading the helpfile from MS is not really helpful. Taking over "posession" did not work, either.

Any hints where to find some guidance, that is readable and concise the same time?

...

... Still in need of guidance, if possible, any links that could do?

Thanks in advance

Here are a couple of links that might help. I found that certain folders show up in Windows 7, but cannot be changed. They show up for legacy reasons IIRC. I found a good explanation once, but don't have the link now.

Thanks GomJabbar,

I' ll look into it and report back. (Since a fourtnight i have "finished" migrating from my upgraded A31P to my "new" T60P. The electronic devices of my children leaving for two month of exchange with France have gained priority... . )

I do find Windows 7 very attractive even compared to Windows XP, but the 64bit-version seems a bit less advanced (less ready to use) than the 32bit-version.

And I do find management a lot more complicated, and as it is to me just normal state of the art to use a network at home, You 're just forced to learn a lot more (rights mangement & co). I do not have much time left as i 'm not an IT-professional, so it will take some time to come to those points of "raffinement", which do the trick ( I still have not read my small handbook on network technique with XP...).

Again thanks, any hints on where to look or read are welcome !!
