Just Installed on X31

#1 Post by ParatoOptimal » Sat Aug 28, 2010 4:09 pm

I just installed W7 Ultimate on my X31 2672 XXM via my X3 Ultrabay.
My track point works and I don't notice any video problems.
There's no sound or wireless.

It's not finding a wireless card. I believe this X31 originally came with a wireless card.
There are three devices in Device Manager that aren't recognized but I thought they all had to do with sound.
I do hear beeps but no other sound from the X31 or the X3.
I checked Lenovo for X31 and W7 drivers. There are a LOT. I noticed track point drivers, etc. but my track point works fine. Which do I need?

How can I check if I have a WiFi card without removing the keyboard?
If there is NO WiFi card, did they all ship with the antenna around the LCD even if it didn't ship with a WiFi card?
Hopefully, if there's no WiFi card, it was just removed by a previous owner and the antenna is still there.

Thanks for any help/advice. I just got this X31. I want to get W7 and Ubuntu running on it.

Is there a driver package I should get from Lenovo weather I use XP, W7 or Linux that will enable full functionality of stock hardware?

Thanks

The X31 manual lists several WiFi cards. Which WiFi card and Bluetooth card is best for use with W7 and Linux?
Thanks

Intel cards have excellent Linux support and usually work right out of the box.

To get sound running, just connect your LAN to internet and let windows update run ... it will find the sound driver.
for video, you need to find the Harryc radeon driver. do a google search. this is a windows vista driver, you will have to force its install but it works.
if you update your bios with one from mydigitallife.com with no whitelist, you can install any wireless card from ebay. I have a generic Atheros AR5006 in mine. again let windows update run and it will find the correct driver.
