shutdown / restart using keyboard shortcut

With XP I used to press Windows Key (a remapped Alt key) to invoke the Start menu, then 'u' for Shut Down, then 'u' again for Shut Down or 'r' for Restart. I liked it. With Windows 7 I don't know how to get 'inside' the Shut Down menu with the keyboard. Any ideas? Because once 'inside', the items have a letter underlined for keyboard shortcuts (e.g., Restart). Thanks for any help.

Try Windows Key, right arrow, enter. It will execute the default option you have set for the shut down button.

Right arrow... Wouldn't have figured that out on my own! Windows key, right arrow, right arrow, 'r' does what I want (a restart using the keyboard). Thanks for the help.

Err... My Windows 7 had its "Snap" optioned enabled, I can use [Win]+[Right_Arrow] to arrange my active program window to the right-half of my screen.

Hence I cannot use [Win]+[Right_Arrow] to induce Win7 to Shutdown (or restart, or suspend, whatever you've sent this default behavour to).

Try Windows Key, follow with right arrow, then enter. But NOT Windows Key + right arrow. MY "snap option" is also enabled but it does not snap when I press the keys sequentially instead of simultaneously.
