Nifty trick to get Intel 825GM/855GM working in Windows 7

#1 Post by frankiepankie » Thu Dec 09, 2010 11:59 am

I installed Windows 7 on my FrankiePad (T40 with R51 mainboard) and had difficulties to get the Intel video working in Windows 7. If i installed the Intel driver from the IBM website, it constantly reverted to the "Standard VGA adapter" after rebooting

I found this: http://www.groundstate.net/855GMWin7.html

That works fine!

The only difference is that i changed the 2nd command at step 3 a little bit (otherwise it would throw an error at me)
icacls c:\windows\system32\drivers\vgapnp.sys /grant "User name":F
(In red are the differences with the command at the website. I added the quotes to the username, because my username has a space in it)

It works good now :)

Just wonder, T40 with the right 855GM drivers, did you manage to get the Win7 Aero features working?

Nope, the GPU can't handle Aero :)

But ehm T40 with Intel GPU? ThinkWiki: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T40 tells me that T40 only came with ATi graphics

Or do you also have a FrankenPad with R5x mainboard

No, my 855GM is not a Thinkpad but a Toshiba.

I also manage to get 855GM working on Windows 7.

But I really felt, 855GM hardware performance could do Aero. I just wish there are some way make Win 7 to accept 855GM as a Aero capable.
