Hotkeys for New install Windows 7 on T400
Hotkeys for New install Windows 7 on T400
Hi,
I could not find a solution even after doing due dilegence search on this topic, please help.
I bought a new HDD for my T400 and installed a Windows 7 64bits.
I also would like to keep the Lenovo software to a minimum so I only installed Hotkeys. However, it only works alittle. For example, I am able to increase/decrease the screen brightness, sleep mode (fn+F4), music controls, reading light.
However, Fn-F3 doesn't work for shutting off the LCD. I read in a topic that the Power manager is needed also, so I installed that as well. I am able to go into the power manager settings and change the FN-F3 to shut off the LCD. However, it still doesn't work. Nothing happens when I press FN-F3.
Further, when I use the volume buttons and screen brightness, it works but the on-screen bar displaying the levels doesn't show anymore.
I also installed the toolbox software which didn't help (and I'll remove it as it is not useful)
What am I missing? Your help is much appreciated

Re: Hotkeys for New install Windows 7 on T400
I don't have a T400, but I have had similar issues on several other ThinkPads. Instead of System Update, I went straight to Lenovo Support Downloads and Drivers -- I found this for the T400
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 72858.html
Scroll down till you get to:
System Utilities
HotKey Features
When I have downloaded the hotkey features in the past, it has restored my audio and brightness when they were missing, as well as restored the onscreen function. This worked for me when System Update didn't.

Hmm...thx for reply.
However, that is what I did. I installed the Hotkeys from the mentioned webpage and encountered the problems in #1 above...any ideas?

You can use System Update to download and install all pertinent drivers.

Sorry, I didn't understand you had already done both -- to the best of my memory, when I did a fresh install of W7 I had the same issue you had with the on-screen display (not showing) -- also, the hotkey didn't raise/lower volume -- only worked by using the volume icon in the taskbar --
Quite often I accomplish a task without really understanding what I have done -- so please take my info with a LARGE DOSE of salt
When my hotkeys and/or on-screen display were not working, I first updated with System Update. Then I went to the Lenovo website and chose the hotkeys and/or audio drivers I needed and re-downloaded -- probably was doing it backwards, but it did accomplish my goal -- working hotkeys/working on-screen display.
Again, to the best of my memory, I had to do this on my old T42 updating to W7 and my T41/R51 -- I don't remember having this issue with my later ThinkPads.
Wish I could be of more help, but that's what worked for me. Surely someone else with more knowledge/experience will see my confused advice and straighten this thread out.

@peakoil, we do not allow duplicate (cross) posting on the forum, so I moved your other thread out of sight. I also moved this thread to the Windows 7 forum.
