Since 2008, I've been using a Thinkpad R61 with 3GB of RAM and an NVidia Quadro 140M graphics card equipped with 512MB of VRAM, as verified under System Infor. Yesterday, I replaced the hard drive and OS with a new hard drive and Windows 7 Ultimate 32. Now, the 140M is showing just 128MB of VRAM; it also appears to share system memory, a behavior I don't want since I have only 3 GB. Finally, I can no longer create custom resolutions; I try, but they're rejected.
Hoping to get back my 512MB and custom virtual resolutions (such as 2,048 x 2,048), I upgraded the driver and Nividia software for the NVS 140M from NVdia's site. (EDIT: The package is Version 266.58 WHQL
Release Date: 2011.01.18 for Windows Vista, Windows 7 , English (U.S.), file size 132 MB.)
After the update, the R651's display is now shown by its actual name (ThinkPad 1680 x 1050, instead of Generic Plug and Play, I think), and my Win7 benchmark for business grpahics has nudged up from 4.1 to 4.2, But the VRAM still reads 128GB, and custom resolutions still won't "take". What gives? Is there a version of the driver that will at least restore the custom resolutions?
EDIT: In a 2008 thread (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/R-and-L-Ser ... td-p/11760 ), someone explains that even if your system shows your 140M has 512MB, that's just 256MB of VRAM and 256MB of system RAM. Under Windows 7, the two pools of memory are now distinguished. Perhaps, under XP, I actually had 128MB of VRAM and 384MB of system RAM.

Yes, you answered your own question. The nVidia Quadro 140m has 128MB dedicated graphics memory (512MB shared)
