Selling x41T with Win 7?

#1 Post by skrypj » Thu Sep 01, 2011 9:37 am

I have a sale pending on craigslist for my x41t. In my original post i stated I would leave Windows on the laptop so that the buyer could verify that the laptop was in working order, but was going to format the drive before they walked off with it. The person looking to buy it is asking me to ship it to them(out of state) and they are insisting that I leave windows on the system and send it out.

Is there any way to delete all my data and what not without reformating and reinstalling Win7? In a secure way? They are insisting that they need it quickly and I dont have my original disk to reload win 7 quickly.

Thanks
Jay

I think the most you can do without re-installing, is to create a new user, remove the existing user, and make sure \Users\[Old Username] is removed.

Cheers.

How secure is that, would it be relatively easy to recover the data from the erased user using data recovery software? Although I think i could do that with a formatted hard drive to.

Yes, it is easy to retrieve the data that you deleted, even with free tools. Defragging the HDD after deleting the info will probably rectify that.

Another option to consider is create a new user account, delete the existing account and then use CCleaner to wipe the free space on the drive. I would think the existing account would be part of the drive's free space after it was deleted. Then go ahead and defrag.

Here is a link for the portable version of CCleaner which you can run from a flash drive...

sounds really fishy. quick shipping wanted out of state. I think you summed it up there.
