Those boxes look sturdy and they weren't thrown in the air. In comparison you should see what your luggage goes through at an airport, or what your parcels suffer at the postal sorting office.

I won't say this is the preferred handling way, but anyone who thinks this is strange or unacceptable can ask a blue collar who've worked in the shipping/freight business.

There's a reason why they put foam inside the box.
