Overnight stopover recommendation between NYC and HHI

#1 Post by AllTPedOut » Fri Dec 16, 2011 2:00 pm

Thinking about driving from NYC to Hilton Head via I95 with an overnight stop somewhere halfway in between. Will probably stop in DC to grab some lunch and then onward to the midway layover. Anyone here have any recommendations as to what town and hotel would be a clean and comfortable rest location?

Some of you may have done the NY-FLA drive so please chime in :D

Thanks!

I live North of Raleigh, Raleigh is a very pretty city, but is somewhat out of the way. I spent 2 weeks in Smithfield NC at the Hampton Inn, which was OK. Nothing to write home about, but it was right around the corner from the Outlet Center. If your into that kind of thing.

Selma is City Limit sign away from Smithfield.

Ron,
Thanks for the suggestion. On our southbound drive, we ended up staying overnight at a Fairfield Inn & Suites near RDU / Brier Creek. The area looks like it's been undergoing some major development and the housing around the hotel looked fairly new. The hotel itself only opened over a year ago. Pretty nice, clean room, free wifi, and the biggest hit was the waffle machine that was available at breakfast. I did not get a chance to check out the shops at Brier Creek Commons, but maybe on a future trip. :D

On our return trip northbound, we stayed over at a Hotel Sierra (soon to be renamed Hyatt House) in Sterling VA (near Dulles). Nice lobby, clean, comfortable room, decent breakfast (they will prepare a made-to-order omelet for you if that floats your boat!)

Wow
You should have hollered at me. I work about 4 miles down Hwy 70 (towards I-85). Briarcreek was 2 graveyards and a a Pine Tree Plantation just 5 years ago. The Hotel is actually built on top of 1 of the grave yards, of course the bodies were all moved across 70 to the other grave yard, anyway.................
